MikeinTyler > This mature female Northern Cardinal is going through her Pre-basic molt. Additionally excessive wear is visable at the distal end of the tail feathers, probably because she nested in an especially dense and tangled area of her range in East Texas. Photo taken in late July.

MikeinTyler > The mature female on top with the bright orange bill is going through her Pre-Basic molt. The immature female on bottom with darker bill is maturing into her Basic plumage.  Photo taken in late July in Eastern Texas.
MikeinTyler > Juvinile Female Cardinal already resplendant in her nearly complete basic plumage, though her crest is not yet developed and her bill is not yet orange.  July 2008  Tyler, TX
MikeinTyler > An immature Mockingbird pauses for a drink in the first week of August.
MikeinTyler > Juvinile Female Cardinal.  Basic plumage well developed including a small crest and her bill is changing its orange coloration.
